Jade (friend) and I love to make crafts. We're not the best at it, but it's a fun Sunday routine for me to get work and school for her, off our minds. For a couple of weeks, we left a DIY project unfinished and in an ode to my dear friend who I can't seem to find the time to catch up with, I decided to complete our project today. These fellas, which I've endeared as "Jade Buttons", are so simple and cute. Unlike the many Pinterest projects I completely screw up, they're easy-peasy.
With the plethora of wonderful drawings that my nieces and nephews create for me and the various shopping lists and reminders pasted to my fridge, I find myself scraping for magnets all the time. These are a great way to recycle old beer caps and display your own little art gallery on your ice box.
- Q-tips
- Beer bottle caps
- Strong 3/4" magnet circles
- A couple of your favorite magazines
- Mod Podge
- Gorilla Glue
- Scissors
Start by finding small drawings or photos in your fav magazine and cut them in a circle, to the size of the inside of the beer caps. Place each of the new cutouts inside your beer caps. There is not really an easy way to do this next step, so make sure you have a plastic table cloth down in case of drips. Slowly pour Mod Podge into each of the caps, just enough to cover the picture. Don't forget, Mod Podge dries clear so don't freak when your picture is covered in the slurry of white goop.
Allow your caps to dry completely. Next, apply a small dab of Gorilla Glue with a Q-tip to the back of the caps. Place a magnet centered on each of the caps and press firmly. Allow the magnets to dry and adhere to the back of the caps before you start going nuts on the fridge, otherwise you'll end up with Gorilla Glue all over your niece's drawings (oops...).
These are the easiest and darndest little crafts to make. A dandy rainy day project or if you're like me, a great craft to enjoy with a good friend. Enjoy your Jade Buttons!
